Below are some stories from 2004:

Owen McGinley was baptized at St. Anne's Catholic church in Garden City on Sunday, September 19.  Liz and Tom held a small reception for family at their new home following the the ceremony.  Click here for pictures.

Tom and Liz bought their first home on July 15. The new house is located in Liz's hometown of Garden City, NY on Long Island.  Tom , Liz and Owen moved into their new abode in early August after painting a few rooms and updating their kitchen.  The new place is great.  Pictures of their completed work will be coming soon.

Congratulations to Tom's friend Tom Kunz.  Tom was ordained at St. Paul's Cathedral in Pittsburgh on June 26th.  Tom and Tom rowed together at Central Catholic and then again at Loyola College.

Tom is pictured here with another Central Crew buddy, Jay Donahue- who is also pursuing a vocation in the priesthood.  The two are pictured here in Rome, where they both studied during the last several years.  Pittsburgh magazine recently featured the duo in a story called "Men In Black".

Congratulations to Tom's cousin Mary McGinley and her new beau Pat Earley.  The couple tied the knot in May 2004  in Palm Beach.  The fairytale wedding included a beautiful reception at the seaside Breakers resort.

Tom's Uncle Jack came across transcripts of a fascinating narrative delivered by U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Alvin H. Tutt recounting his memories of his boat - LST 314 being sunk by a German E-boat during the Normandy Invasion.  Tom's grandfather, Jack Sr., the patriarch of the McGinley family was on the boat when it sank.  He swam for several hours in 52 degree water until the captain of a British Destroyer - The HMS Beagle went against orders to save the U.S. Navy LST 314 survivors who were fighting for their life- including Tom's grandfather.

Tom came across a great vintage picture of his mother and her siblings taken sometime in the mid 1960's.  From left to right is Judy, Gretchen (Tom's Mom), Bill, Ann, Margaret and Liz.

Here is a picture of Tom's dad with his siblings and parents taken at the last home Steeler game ever played in Three Rivers Stadium.  From left to right is Tom's Grandfather (Jack), Jack Jr., Matey, Tom's Grandma (Marie), Mike, Tom's Dad (Tom Sr.), Jim and Barney.

Art Rooney Jr. received a visit in early December from a long, lost friend of Thomas Joseph Rooney.  Tommy Rooney was Tom's great uncle who died in the war while serving in Guam in the early 40's.  Tom's dad, Thomas Joseph McGinley Sr., was named after his fallen uncle.  Tom Jr. inherited the name from his dad.  The gentleman who visited Art had some very touching pictures and stories to share with the family.  I have scanned Art's correspondence to the family.

It can be downloaded in Word format
by clicking here.

Tom discovered a copy of a September 27, 1964 Sunday Roto by the Pittsburgh Press.  This particular edition features an article on Shamrock Farm, the Rooney horse farm in Maryland.  I have attached a scanned version of the story in Word format.

Happy New Year!  After traveling to Hidden Valley and Pittsburgh to see Tom's family for the holiday, Tom and Liz returned to New York.  Tom's sister and dad made a quick trip into New York after the Christmas holiday.  We spent the Sunday after Christmas at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Pastis and Madame Tussaude's Wax Museum.  Click one of the following links for more pictures: Hidden Valley with Tom's dad, Heinz Field Break In Pictures, Christmas Eve with Tom's mother, Tom's dad and sister weekend visit to New York, Madame Toussade's and Christmas pictures we've received from family & friends.
